raising helen

i don't know what i am supposed to title these blogs. i'm not writing a novel, or a poem, just random thoughts. i figure that since i watch way too many movies i will just title my blogs after a movie. but, that doesn't mean thats what my blog is about. its just something to fill in that damn title space. i just watched Raising Helen this past weekend. seems like a good title for todays blog.

my thanksgiving was nice. small family gathering at my moms. the usual food. she had a lot of dessert this year. i made a double chocolate pumpkin cheesecake. i found the receipe in an issue of Woman's Day magazine. it was so fabulous. cheesecake is such a weakness of mine. there was no apple pie this year. the cheesecake was a good substitute.

i am blogging from work. right now i do not have a computer at home so i am doing this from work. i am a secretary. i hate that word, it sounds so 50's. i don't make anyones coffee and i don't pick up anyone's dry cleaning. i work in a very small office and work for the director of maintenance, operations and transportation for a school district. he is out of the office most of the time. all the schools call me and tell whats not working so i can send someone to fix it. lately it has been heaters not working and leaky roofs.

not sure if it has been mentioned but i live in the central valley in california. winters here aren't very cold. and i try not to complain too much. i don't know what its like to live where there is an actual winter season, snow and everything. but lately it has been very cold here. a lot of ice on my car in the morning. and that is something that i hate to have to mess with.

i must go for now...i am drowning in paperwork.

i am so glad today is Friday. i slept horrible last night. my oldest son coughed all night last night. i woke him around 2 am to give him cough medicine and he didn't want to take. told me it tastes terrible. by the way hes nine. his brother is six and loves to take medicine. so, here i am at 2 in the morning arguing with my oldest, telling him that even adults don't like the taste of cough medicine but you take and deal with it. it will make you stop coughing and let me sleep. he eventually took it. so much attitude for a nine year old. is it typical?

i took them to see The Incredibles last week. they loved it and so did i. can't go wrong with a movie about superheros, especially for my kids. i am hoping to get away to see Ocean's 12 when it comes out. the chances of that happening are slim to none but a girl can stay hopeful. i love that my kids love to watch movies.

thanksgiving is just around the corner. i can't believe how fast this month has gone by. the means christmas will be here soon. apple pie, thats my favorite thing to eat on thanksgiving.

where have all the socks gone?

this is something i ponder every week when i do laundry. i realize that the subject is very trivial, but i can't help it. i separate my laundry and when i do i always make sure that i have an even number of socks. so why is it that when i take a load of clothes out of the dryer, i am always missing a sock? i check between the washer and dryer, the missing sock is not there. where do they go? i know my kids would love to think that there is a "sock" monster of some kind that reaches in and takes one. just to make things difficult. they must go somewhere and i wonder where???
